Let's get down to BUGness!

What’s the BUG deal?

Invasive Insect Awareness

It is our mission to educate all ages about our ecosystems in Mississippi and how some insects can hurt what we have. Invasive insects, such as the Spotted Lanternfly and Emerald Ash Borer, impact our native ecosystems and cause problems.

Love for Museums

The Mississippi Entomological Museum is a fantastic resource not only for researchers in the Southeast United States, but for everyone that has curiosity about our six-legged friends! We give tours of the museum to anyone interested, reach out!

Conservation Education

You must take the good with the bad, and we take that very seriously! We believe that it is just as important to educate about our native critters that don’t cause us any harm, to balance out our talks about invasive or pest insects.

Join us for Bug Camp 2026!

Got some bug enthusiastic kids in your life?

Mississippi State University has a long and proud history of hosting Bug & Plant Camp, an entomology tradition that spans decades. In fact, it’s the oldest “bug camp” in the world!

Each summer, budding naturalists and insect enthusiasts wake up early and stay out late collecting insects and exploring the outdoors. Camp is based out of the Clay Lyle Entomology Complex on the MSU campus, with field trips to incredible natural areas such as the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge.

The Mississippi Entomological Museum proudly offers two unique camps for youth aged 12–17!
